Create your first invoice

Step-by-step walkthrough of drafting an invoice in Docz.me — client, line items, tax, currency, due date, and notes.

An invoice in Docz is four things: a client, at least one line item, a due date, and whatever extras your jurisdiction demands (tax, notes, PO number).

Start a new invoice

From the dashboard click New invoice. The form opens with sensible defaults:

  • Currency = your account default
  • Issue date = today
  • Due date = +14 days (change per client if needed)

Pick a client

Start typing the client's name. If the client does not exist yet, click Create new from the dropdown — minimum name + email is enough, the rest can come later.

Add line items

Each line item has a description, quantity, unit price, and optional tax rate. Line totals calculate automatically; the grand total updates as you type.

Set currency and tax

Override the currency from the header if this invoice is in a different currency than your default. Tax applies per-line; leave blank on lines that are tax-exempt (e.g. disbursements).

Dates and numbering

Invoice number defaults to the next number in sequence. Change it manually if you need to match an external system, but keep the sequence gap-free for tax authorities.

Issue date is when the work was delivered; due date is when payment is owed. Both can be backdated — useful for catch-up invoicing.

Notes and PO number

The Notes field prints at the bottom of the invoice. Use it for payment terms, thank-you notes, or PO references. Keep it short — anything over a paragraph looks cluttered on the hosted page.

Save draft or send

  • Save draft — keeps the invoice private; useful if you're waiting on a client confirmation before sending
  • Send — commits the invoice number, emails the client, and marks the invoice as "Sent"
